Increasing Traffic with Organic SEO

When it comes to increasing traffic on your website there are numerous methods available. You can opt to go with paid advertising, you can try social media, and you can purchase banner ads on your favorite websites. However, nothing can really come close to the tested and true method of organic search engine optimization. SEO has been used ever since the rise of Google nearly 15 years ago. Increasing organic traffic with SEO, or reviving a nearly-dead website relies on implementing new and refreshing SEO techniques instead of using rehashed methods that have been outdated or have failed in the past.

Weeding out “Bad Links”

Google is starting to really crack down on websites that have a number of “bad links.” A bad link can be described as any backlink that resembles a spam link, originates from a low-quality source or has numerous other links on the same page. Removing bad links and differentiating them from goods links is very important when it comes to improving your ratings in the search engines.

The first step for removing bad links is to download a .csv file that contains all of the backlinks pointing to your website. A good tool for accomplishing this is the Google Webmaster Tool. This is free to use and makes it easy to view all of your links in .csv format. You can open the file with Microsoft Excel or a similar program to view the list of links. You can analyze the list to find and weed out the links which appear to be of poor quality. This can be difficult if you don’t have much SEO experience, so you may need the help of an SEO expert or an SEO firm for accomplishing this.

After identifying the bad links, and the source they originated from you have to remove them. If you had the links placed there by using the services of an SEO agency who used link and blog networks, simply send them an email asking them to remove the links to your website. If they refuse, you have the option of “bribing” them by offering money for each link they remove. Finally, you have the option of using Google’s disavow tool which invalidates any links you input into the tool.

Create High Quality Content

Another common reason for a website being penalized by Google is for having low-quality content on their pages. Google has very advanced algorithms they use to determine which content is good and which is bad. Creating high quality content starts with brainstorming ideas about what the content is going to be about. One of the most popular ways webmasters add content to their websites naturally is by creating a separate blog section on the same domain. A blog is a great way to add content because the material doesn’t have to be promotional – just ensure the content you write is informative and useful to your customers.

Create High Quality Link Profiles

The most important aspect of recovering your website and moving up in the search engines is through the creation of high quality link profiles and backlinks. Having high quality backlinks pointing to your website is very important, as Google places a high amount of importance on these links when they consider your PageRank and position in the search engines.

You have two basic options when it comes to building links – you can build them yourself or hire an outside agency to build them for you. Hiring an outside agency brings the benefit of allowing you to focus on different aspects of your business, but it has the downside of costing money. Building backlinks yourself allows you to build extremely high quality backlinks at little to no cost, and you can set the rate and velocity at which the backlinks are built. The primary downside of building backlinks yourself is it can take a considerable amount of time each day, and you need plenty of experience to build high quality links.

By removing bad links, creating excellent content and generating high-quality backlinks to your website you can quickly turn around any failing website and restore its PageRank and position within the search results without having to use drastic measures.
